In 2005, the proprietors of Jungle Camp purchased 40 acres of deteriorated property in Kanha National Park's buffer zone. They planned to turn it into sal woodland (native Shorea Robusta that yields timber). In 15 years, the once-deserted area was transformed into a lush rainforest.

Camera Trap studies
Researchers just put two cameras in the 10-acre private nature reserve. These cameras are deliberately positioned throughout the park to research the more mysterious species. They are left in place for three to four weeks or longer. It's always interesting to hear about what's going on at the nature reserve when we're at camp.

Kanha Tiger Reserve is a birdwatcher's heaven, with around 300 kinds of birds. Expert guides guide bird-watching expeditions with several decades of local expertise and training in our private nature reserve, a buffer region of Kanha Tiger Reserve, or along the Banjaar River. Kanha National Park is great for bird viewing from November to May.

Climate & Weather at Kanha Jungle Camp
Kanha National Park's climate varies greatly, although it is mainly tropical. Summer temperatures can exceed 45 degrees Celsius. During the monsoon season, which begins in June and lasts until September, rains are heavy and frequent. The winters are cold and picturesque from November to February.
The park's elevation ranges from 600 m (1900 ft.) near Kanha Village to 870 m (2900 ft.) at the Bamhni Dadar plateau.
- Summers are particularly hot and dry (April-June), with maximum temperatures reaching 45° C.
- The monsoon season lasts from mid-June to September, with an average rainfall of 1800 mm.
- Winters are relatively cold (November-February), with frost covering the meadows at times, with temperatures reaching – 2° C on such mornings.
